The Government Pensioners Association of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has written to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, urging the immediate constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) and the release of its Terms of Reference. A copy of the letter has also been sent to the Cabinet Secretary, Government of India.

The letter, dated June 26, 2025, and signed by Suresh Lall, General Secretary of the Association, expresses deep concern over the delay in setting up the 8th CPC, despite the Central Government’s decision in January 2025 to constitute it. The association emphasised the need to ensure parity in pension between past and future pensioners and called for the implementation of the CPC’s recommendations from January 1, 2026.

“The pensioners are perplexed by the inordinate delay. Although six months have passed since the government’s decision and initial consultations with the JCM staff side were held, the Commission has not been formally constituted, nor have the terms of reference been made public,” the Association stated. “This has raised serious concerns about how the revised pay and pension structures will be implemented on time.”

The appeal from the A&N Islands is part of a nationwide coordinated effort initiated by the National Coordination Committee of Pensioners Associations, New Delhi. On June 26, pensioners’ associations, unions, federations, and coordination committees across the country dispatched similar letters to the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Secretary, collectively pressing for urgent action on the matter.
