Grand Inauguration of “DGP Cup 2024 Season-II T-20 League-cum-Knockout Cricket Tournament” Held

The Andaman & Nicobar Police orchestrated a historic moment with the grand inauguration of the DGP Cup 2024 Season-II T-20 League-cum-Knockout Cricket Tournament. The event, held at Netaji Stadium, reverberated with excitement and anticipation as cricket enthusiasts from across the islands gathered to witness the spectacle. 

Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, DGP of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, graced the occasion as the chief guest, lending his esteemed presence to elevate the prestige of the event. Amidst cheers and applause, the tournament kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony, featuring captivating cultural performances that set the stage for the unveiling of the coveted trophy.

With 43 teams vying for glory, the competition promises to be intense and gripping. The vibrant atmosphere in the stadium, bustling with spectators, players, and dignitaries, showcased the profound passion for cricket within the A&N Islands community. As the tournament progresses, it is expected to foster camaraderie and healthy competition among the participating teams, uniting them in their love for the game.

Addressing the gathering, the DGP emphasised the importance of sports in keeping the youth healthy, stress-free, and providing opportunities for career growth. He reiterated the commitment of the A&N Police to promote various sports and games earnestly for the benefit of the island’s youth, enabling them to lead healthy lives in society.

The inaugural match witnessed a thrilling showdown, with Team “Jai Hind” displaying their prowess by clinching victory over Team “Coral Safari” with 8 wickets in hand and 4.1 overs to spare. This electrifying start sets the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating tournament ahead, filled with memorable moments and fierce competition.
