In an effort to promote experiential learning and awareness about modern agriculture, a group of students from Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Bakultala, visited ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North & Middle Andaman, on 30th October 2025. The educational excursion aimed to provide students with practical exposure to agricultural practices and innovations.
The visit began with a welcome address by Mr. Rakesh Dawar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), who introduced the students to the various activities and facilities of the KVK. The students explored crop demonstration fields, fisheries units, farm mechanization setups, integrated farming systems, and vermicomposting units. They also learned about climate-resilient technologies, sustainable farming methods, and the importance of agriculture in ensuring food and nutritional security.
Dr. V. Damodaran, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR–KVK, briefed the students on the KVK’s mandate, its role in disseminating the latest agricultural technologies to farming communities, and the welfare programmes implemented for farmers’ benefit. He also highlighted career opportunities in agriculture and allied sciences, emphasizing the importance of science, technology, and innovation in transforming the farming sector.
As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign and Vigilance Awareness Week 2025, the students were sensitized about cleanliness, vigilance, and their responsibility in promoting integrity and transparency in society.
Teachers accompanying the students appreciated the KVK team’s efforts for imparting valuable knowledge and providing meaningful hands-on learning experiences.
The programme was organized under the overall guidance of Dr. Jai Sunder, Director, ICAR–CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram. A total of 105 students and teachers participated in the visit.
