Anisa Bibi a resident of Rangachang, South Andaman is struggling during this pandemic to make ends meet for herself, her family of two little kids and husband. Recently in the month of April she received a cheque of Rs. 25,000 from Guru Ki Rasoi to set up a poultry business so that she can earn sustained income and take care of her family.
All was going well for Anisa Bibi, her husband was able to earn enough to take care of their family before the pandemic. Her husband used to work as a driver in the flourishing tourism industry of the Islands and his income stopped as lockdown measures were put in place in March 2020.
As tourism restarted she had hoped that her husband would be able to provide for her family again, but she did not want to risk depending on only one income stream this time.
She approached Guru Ki Rasoi and they helped her with Rs. 25,000/- to start a poultry business. Anisa Bibi with the help received, bought 80 chicks of Vanraj Chicken and is taking good care of those chicks to sell them when they are market ready.
She is still facing financial issues because it might take six months for her chicks to be market worthy and she needs to sustain her family till then. The rise in number of COVID cases have again resulted in shutting down of tourism in the Islands.
Anisa Bibi is now sustaining with help from her family, speaking to Nicobar Times she informed that, this time her father has bought ration for them and her family is managing with the ration provided by him.
Further, she also mentioned that she has received a ration kit from Guru Ki Rasoi recently and she is thankful to them.
There are numerous families who are in need of help because the pandemic has interrupted their income sources. The initiative of Guru Ki Rasoi to help create an income stream for a family is commendable.
The model followed by Guru Ki Rasoi should be replicated by all philanthropic organisations in Andamans, as it focuses on creating self sustaining income streams for those in need.
