In a bid to boost women-led agricultural entrepreneurship, the Zonal Agriculture Office, Diglipur conducted a hands-on training programme for members of the Andaman Nicobar Diglipur Women FED Food Processing Farmer Producer Company Ltd. at the Soil Conservation-cum-Spices Demonstration Farm, V.S. Pally.

The training, held on April 12, 2025, aimed to sensitise members of the Subashgram-based Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) on agriculture-based activities and encourage them to explore entrepreneurial avenues. The FPO, which is exclusively comprised of women members, has been actively engaged in promoting food processing and spice cultivation in the region.

Ms. Seena Pillai, Agriculture Officer (I/c), Diglipur, welcomed the participants and set the tone for the day’s activities. Emphasizing the region’s potential in spice production, Ms. Kamrun Nisa, Agriculture Assistant, highlighted the significance of island-grown spices and encouraged members to involve other villagers, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and local producers in marketing their produce through the VATIKA initiative.

The technical session, led by Mr. Riktik Baroi, Junior Agriculture Assistant, featured practical demonstrations and hands-on training modules designed to equip the women farmers with essential agricultural skills.

A total of 16 members from the FPO participated in the programme, marking a significant step toward strengthening women’s involvement in sustainable agriculture and local agribusiness in Diglipur.
