In a unique initiative that seamlessly merged personal wellbeing with environmental awareness, the Biological Park at Chidiyatapu recently hosted a special event titled ‘Harit Yoga’. The programme brought together yoga and a tree plantation drive, promoting both holistic health and ecological sustainability.

The event drew enthusiastic participation from the park’s staff, workers and their families, yoga practitioners, and forester trainees from the Forest Training Institute, Wimberlygunj. The yoga session was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Benjamin Selva Kumar, Physical Education Teacher at FTI, offering a refreshing start to the day for all attendees.

Following the session, participants took part in planting endemic and native saplings—species naturally found in the forests of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The plantation activity was carried out both near and inside the animal enclosures, reinforcing the park’s commitment to ecological enrichment.

Mr. A.C. Tilak, Deputy Director of the Biological Park, emphasized that the aim of the initiative was to foster harmony between health and nature. Ms. B. Sweta, Camp Officer (Plant Section), coordinated the plantation drive, ensuring that ecologically appropriate species were selected and planted.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to protect the environment and spread the spirit of ‘Harit Yoga’ throughout their communities.
