As the 11th International Day of Yoga approaches on June 21, the Directorate of Health Services and the A & N State AYUSH Society, in collaboration with the Forest Department, have launched a series of ‘Harit Yoga’ initiatives across the Islands to promote health, environmental conservation, and community participation.

At Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in Teylerabad and Guptapara, around 55 participants took part in combined yoga sessions alongside tree plantation drives and clean-up activities, fostering both physical well-being and ecological awareness.

Yoga sessions at Nature Park, Wildlife Division, Haddo, and Marina Park have provided opportunities for participants to connect with nature while practicing yoga. Y-Break sessions have been conducted for government officials across various departments to integrate yoga into their daily work routine.

Other upcoming activities include a special antenatal yoga session at G.B. Pant Hospital and an inter-college quiz competition to engage students with the principles of yoga. Summer yoga camps for children are also being organized throughout the Islands to encourage healthy lifestyles.

To build capacity in yoga instruction, a Training of Trainers (ToT) program on the Common Yoga Protocol was held at the Yoga Unit of AYUSH Hospital, involving staff members from multiple departments. A dedicated yoga session for girl children was conducted at Pranab Kalyan Ashram.

The signature ‘Yoga Samavesh’ event is scheduled at CRC Brookshabad and Abhyudaya Complex, Ferrargunj, designed to welcome Divyangjan, senior citizens, and children, emphasizing yoga’s inclusive benefits.

Additionally, a Beach Yoga session at Wandoor Beach involved local villagers, offering a tranquil environment where participants could experience yoga alongside the calming ocean atmosphere, helping reduce stress and promote environmental appreciation.

These activities aim to build enthusiasm for the International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025, while promoting wellness, environmental stewardship, and community spirit throughout the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
