In a concerted effort to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene, the Community Medicine Department of ANIIMS and GB Pant Hospital organised educational health talks across three institutes in Sri Vijaya Puram. The initiative aimed to educate young girls on crucial aspects of menstrual health, including the biological process of the menstrual cycle, common menstrual pain, cleanliness, symptoms of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), and the societal taboos surrounding menstruation.

The sessions, held at Government Senior Secondary School (Garacharma), GDMS (Middle Point), and Pranab Kanya Sangha orphanage, benefitted approximately 150 young girls. These educational talks empowered participants with vital knowledge to make informed decisions about their menstrual health.

Led by experts from the Community Medicine Department, the sessions provided in-depth discussions on the physiological aspects of menstruation, ways to manage menstrual discomfort (dysmenorrhea), and the impact of PCOS on menstrual cycles and overall well-being. Additionally, the girls learned about the importance of hygienic disposal of sanitary pads and measures to prevent bacterial and fungal infections.

The interactive sessions also allowed students to voice their concerns and clear misconceptions about menstrual hygiene, fostering a better understanding of safe practices. The event concluded with the distribution of free sanitary napkins, sponsored by the Little Hearts NGO, further supporting the health and well-being of the girls.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to break the silence around menstruation, encourage open discussions, and ensure that young girls are equipped with the knowledge to take care of their health.
