A successful health camp was held at Upper Katchal in the Nicobar District on 23rd May 2025 as part of the Government of India’s flagship outreach initiative Prashasan Aapke Dwar – Gaon Ke Ore. The program is aimed at delivering essential public services to remote and underserved regions, with a special focus on healthcare access and community empowerment.

The camp was conducted under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Mr. Aditya Sangotra, in collaboration with the Indian Coast Guard outreach team “Kardeep” and the Community Health Centre (CHC) Nancowry. The joint effort was designed to provide a comprehensive range of medical services to the residents of Upper Katchal, many of whom have limited access to routine healthcare.

A team from CHC Nancowry, led by Dr. Nirmal Kumar Bajpai, Medical Officer In-Charge, was central to the operation of the camp. Dr. Bajpai supervised the camp’s overall functioning and provided general consultations. He was joined by Dr. M. A. Tanzeer, who offered outpatient services and treated general ailments; Dr. Maxim Thomas, a dental surgeon who conducted dental check-ups and provided oral health advice; and Dr. Shabnam Salim, MO homeopathy, administered treatments and distributed homeopathic medicines.

Pharmacist Mr. Rahul Garai ensured the correct dispensing of prescribed medicines while offering dosage guidance to patients. Laboratory support was provided by Mr. Sagar, who performed blood sugar testing and assisted with other diagnostics. A Navy doctor from the Kardeep team also supported the OPD services, further strengthening the outreach.

More than 45 patients were treated during the camp, which offered a variety of services including general medical consultations, dental care, and homeopathic treatment. Tuberculosis screening was also carried out, with two CBNAAT samples collected for further testing. Special attention was given to bedridden patients, who were treated at home with updated prescriptions and necessary medical interventions. Disability cases were also evaluated, and the process for issuing disability certificates was initiated.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from the local tribal community, underscoring their trust in and demand for accessible healthcare services. CHC Nancowry expressed its deep appreciation for the warm response and cooperation received from the community.

Special acknowledgment was extended to Mr. Andrew Levi, First Captain of Upper Katchal, whose coordination and support at the local level were key to the successful execution of the camp.

This health camp stands as a shining example of integrated governance and community-driven service delivery, reinforcing the commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in some of the country’s most remote regions. (Story Based on PR from Medical Officer In-charge CHC Nancowry)
