In a concerted effort to prioritise the well-being of farmers and Department staff, a multi-disciplinary health check-up camp was organised on August 19, 2023, at Golghar. The event was a collaborative initiative between the Department of Community Medicine at ANIIMS (Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences) and the Department of Agriculture, guided by Dr. Pragya Sharma, Director of ANIIMS, and Mr. Vikram Singh, Director of the Department of Agriculture.

The health camp brought together a dedicated team of doctors, lab technicians, and medical-social workers representing various departments, including Medicine, Dermatology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Medicine, Pathology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology. Their mission was to provide comprehensive health screenings for approximately 130 men and women, including farmers and Department staff, with a particular focus on identifying commonly prevalent diseases.

As part of the health assessments, participants had their anthropometry and vital signs measured. Blood samples were also collected to conduct a range of crucial investigations, encompassing Complete Blood Count, Fasting blood sugar levels, Hepatitis B & C infections, Liver function tests, Kidney function tests, Thyroid profiles, and Lipid profiles.

The primary objective of this initiative was to gauge the health status of the agricultural staff and the local farming community. By facilitating early diagnosis and treatment for prevalent diseases such as Anaemia, Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Thyroid disorders, Worm infestations, Skin diseases, Gynaecological issues in women, and other ailments prevalent in their community, the health camp aimed to contribute to the overall well-being of the participants.
