Health Tech Startup Seminar Encourages Innovation to Transform Healthcare Delivery

The Directorate of Industries, in collaboration with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) and island-based startups, hosted a dynamic Health Tech Startup Seminar that drew around 100 participants. Attendees included students from ANIIMS, PG Students from Pondicherry University (Andaman Campus), Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM).

The seminar, focused on innovative approaches in healthcare delivery with a special emphasis on nutrition, was conceptualised under the leadership of Mr. Abhishek Bhukal, Director of Industries. The event aimed to spotlight technological solutions that could transform the health sector in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

During the inauguration, Mr. Ajit Anand, Deputy Director of the Industries Department, set an inspiring tone by emphasising the growing importance of startups in today’s economy. “It’s the age of startups,” he remarked, encouraging participants to explore opportunities in the health sector, where innovation is crucial for progress.

The seminar’s technical sessions were organized by Ms. S. Sunitha Kumari, Assistant Director (Tech), who provided an overview of the day’s program. Dr. Amrita Burma, Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at ANIIMS, led an engaging session on nutrition. Her presentation covered key topics including the importance of nutrition, the impact of dietary habits on health, and lifestyle-related diseases. She and her team provided valuable insights on managing health through balanced nutrition.

One of the highlights of the event was a presentation by startup M/s Aquatropics Pvt. Ltd., which introduced its innovative “Sea Diet” concept. Their approach to integrating marine-based nutrition into everyday diets sparked interest among attendees. The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) also delivered a brief talk on innovations in marine health technology, while Dr. Puja from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra gave an informative session on balanced diets and sustainable nutrition.

The seminar provided a platform for meaningful discussions, networking, and knowledge sharing. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of the role of nutrition in healthcare and how innovations in health tech can enhance the quality of life. By fostering collaborations between startups, students, and health professionals, the event underscored the potential for health tech advancements to make a lasting impact on the region’s healthcare landscape.

This vibrant seminar not only celebrated innovation but also highlighted the significance of startups in shaping the future of healthcare in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
