Authorities have issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on October 20 and 21, with expected precipitation of 7 to 20 centimetres at isolated locations.
In addition to the rainfall, squally weather is anticipated, with wind speeds reaching 35 to 45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, over the Andaman Sea and the coastal areas of the islands. As a result, sea conditions are likely to be rough to very rough.
Fishermen are advised against venturing into the Andaman Sea and the surrounding waters from October 20 to 24. The IMD has forecasted swell waves measuring between 1.6 and 2.2 meters high, with a period of 18.0 to 21.0 seconds, expected to persist until 11:30 PM on October 20.
Due to the possibility of surging waves, boat operators are urged to exercise extreme caution and ensure safe recreational activities.
A Distant Cautionary Signal No. I has been hoisted at Sri Vijayapuram Port in light of these weather conditions.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay updated with the latest forecasts and adhere to safety advisories.
