Authorities have issued a weather alert for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days.
Heavy rain, measuring between 07–11 cm, is very likely to occur at one or two places over the Andaman Islands on September 19, 20 and 21. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (40–50 kmph) and lightning are also expected during this period.
On September 21, thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40–50 kmph and lightning are likely at isolated places across the Islands. The Nicobar region is expected to experience thunderstorms with gusty winds of 30–40 kmph and lightning on September 22.
Authorities have also cautioned of squally weather conditions with surface wind speed reaching 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, over the Andaman Sea and along the A&N coast. The sea is likely to remain rough, and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till September 21.
