The authorities have issued a weather alert warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. According to the forecast, heavy rain ranging between 7 to 11 cm is likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman Island on June 13. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph and lightning are also expected at isolated locations across the Islands.
Similar weather conditions are likely to continue on June 14, with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning predicted at one or two places across the archipelago.
In addition, squally weather with surface wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected over the Andaman Sea and the surrounding areas of the islands. The sea condition is forecasted to be rough during this period.
In light of these conditions, fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman Sea and Andaman & Nicobar Islands until June 16. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents and seafarers to exercise caution.
