High-Level Meeting Held at Lok Nivas on Formation of District-Wise STFs to Detect and Deport Illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas

A high-level meeting chaired by Admiral D.K. Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, was held recently at Lok Niwas to review measures for addressing the issue of illegal immigration in the Islands.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Police and the A&N Administration.

During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on the constitution and operationalisation of district-wise Special Task Forces (STFs) for the detection, identification and deportation of illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Emphasis was laid on adopting a structured, coordinated and lawful approach in carrying out these tasks.

The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor underscored the importance of strong inter-departmental coordination, robust intelligence gathering and strict adherence to due process. The Director General of Police briefed the chair on preparedness measures, including the formation of STFs, establishment of holding centres and implementation of biometric procedures. He reaffirmed the commitment of the police force towards ensuring internal security and public safety.
