In response to growing public concern following the outbreak of hostilities between India and Pakistan, the Andaman and Nicobar unit of Hindu Rashtra Shakti has urged the Union Territory administration to take urgent steps to ensure the steady supply of essential commodities and curb black marketing across the islands.
In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Lt Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Rakeshwar Lall, State President of the Hindu Rashtra Shakti, emphasized the islands’ geographic vulnerability and dependence on mainland supply chains. He warned that any disruption could lead to acute shortages, inflated prices, and unethical practices such as hoarding and black marketing.
The organization has requested the administration to:
• Coordinate with central agencies to prioritize the shipment of essential goods including food grains, fuel, and medicines.
• Enforce strict price controls to prevent inflation.
• Conduct frequent inspections to curb black marketing and hoarding.
• Launch a public grievance redressal mechanism via a helpline and online portal for reporting shortages and unfair pricing.
“The strategic and isolated nature of the islands makes proactive intervention critical to prevent panic and protect public welfare during such uncertain times,” Lall stated in the letter.
Copies of the appeal have also been forwarded to the Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Chief Secretary of the A&N Administration, the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), and all local print media outlets.
