Mr. P. Sathyapal, General Secretary of the Hinterland Seamen Union (CITU), along with Mr. E. Rudraiah, a member of the Union, recently met the Secretary (Shipping), Andaman & Nicobar Administration, to seek implementation of wage revision for seamen working in the inter-island, foreshore and mainland–island sectors.

During the meeting, the Union representatives stated that the wages of seamen working under the Shipping Department have not been revised for several years. They pointed out that seamen are still being paid wages fixed more than 12 years ago, attributing the situation to delays in the wage revision process.

The delegation also highlighted that the continued delay has led to financial difficulties for seamen and urged the Administration to take necessary steps to revise wages across all three sectors without further delay.

The Secretary (Shipping) reportedly assured the delegation that the issue would be examined.
