Home Secretary GOI Visits Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Reviews Key Projects

The Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Mr. Govind Mohan, visited the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on a one-day official tour on September 15, 2024. 

Upon his arrival, Mr. Mohan conducted a comprehensive review of several significant initiatives, including the implementation of flagship schemes of the Government of India, tourism development, and the ambitious projects planned for Great Nicobar Island. The discussions also covered the enactment of three new criminal laws in the Union Territory. The review meeting was held at the A&N Secretariat, with the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, and other senior officials in attendance.

In the afternoon, the Home Secretary visited Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep, where he was briefed by consultants on various island development projects. The presentation highlighted the ongoing and proposed works under the NSCB Dweep Development initiative, along with the 4 Islands and 11 Islands projects aimed at boosting the region’s infrastructure and tourism potential. Further discussions were held with the Chief Secretary and other senior officers of the A&N Administration to explore ways to expedite these developments.

Mr. Mohan is scheduled to return to the mainland today, September 16, after completing his visit.
