In a significant development, two contractual employees working with a outsourcing agency employed with defence establishment have been arrested on charges of allegedly passing sensitive information of security agencies. The arrest comes following an investigation initiated based on intelligence agency reports highlighting suspicious anti-national activities.
The case has been registered under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, at PS Central Crime Station after receiving intelligence reports regarding the suspicious activities of the contractual staff. The accused has been identified as Abhishek Kumar Gupta, a resident of Deoria District, Uttar Pradesh, who was engaged by an outsourcing agency and had joined NSRY in March 2023.
Investigations have revealed that Gupta, under the influence of a woman who allegedly honey-trapped him, shared sensitive information through platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram. It is alleged that he accepted approximately Rs. 20,000 on various occasions in exchange for divulging sensitive information related to security agencies.
Furthermore, it was discovered that Gupta had conspired with a colleague, Santu Biswas, a resident of Nadia District, West Bengal, to pass on sensitive information to him during his absence. In turn, Santu Biswas also shared classified information with Abhishek Kumar Gupta in exchange for monetary gains.
Both Abhishek Kumar Gupta and Santu Biswas have been apprehended and are currently in police custody. Authorities are actively investigating their connections to unveil the potential involvement of other individuals in this espionage operation.
