Concerns over the infrastructure and civic facilities at Junglighat Crematorium have been raised by local residents and civic leaders, highlighting the need for immediate action to ensure smooth and dignified access to the sacred site.

Rakeshwar Lall, State President of Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, addressed a formal request to the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, seeking comprehensive improvements at the crematorium and along the access route. The concerns were initially brought to attention by Mr. Sekhar Rao, a resident of Dairy Farm, in a representation to the Member of Parliament, which was subsequently endorsed to the Hindu Rashtra Shakti leadership.

The letter detailed several pressing issues, including the deteriorating condition of roads leading from Island Bakery to Junglighat Truck Stand and from Junglighat School to the crematorium. Traffic congestion caused by the weekly Sunday market along the route, particularly due to vegetable vendors and small shopkeepers, was also highlighted as a major concern during funeral processions.

To enhance the environment for grieving families, the letter recommends beautification along the route with flowering plants, improved hygiene at the ashes immersion point, widening and safety upgrades of sea access steps, and installation of seating benches and a small memorial garden to provide comfort and dignity.

“The route to Junglighat Crematorium is not merely a pathway but a sacred journey for the departed. Maintaining it with respect, cleanliness, and appropriate infrastructure reflects our cultural values and compassion for bereaved families,” the letter emphasized.

Copies of the request were also shared with the Chief Secretary and the Deputy Commissioner (SA) for necessary action.

The civic community now awaits swift action from the Administration, particularly the APWD and SVMC, to address these longstanding infrastructural and civic issues.
