A woman in the Dollygunj area of Sri Vijaya Puram has accused her husband of attempting to murder her following a heated argument at their rented home. The incident, which occurred early on January 16, has been registered as an ‘attempt to murder’ case at Pahargaon Police Station.
As per the woman’s statement, the dispute arose when she expressed her desire to take up a job, which her husband vehemently opposed. Allegedly fuelled by suspicion and anger, her husband, who works as a cement mason, started arguing with her and then assaulted her with a sharp weapon. The attack reportedly began with him striking her head and face, resulting in injuries.
Fearing for her life, the woman ran while her husband chased her and continued attacking her with the sharp weapon. She managed to escape and sought refuge at a neighbour’s house. She was later rescued by a police patrol team and taken to PHC Garacharma for medical treatment. The victim stated that her husband threatened to kill her and has a history of abusive behaviour, including a prior police case filed against him.
The police have registered a case under Sections 109 and 324(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
This incident underscores the pressing need for awareness and support systems to address domestic violence and protect vulnerable individuals in the community.
