Hut Bay Police Seizes 928 Grams of Methamphetamine, Two Arrested

In a significant anti-drug operation, Police Station Hut Bay, under the leadership of SI G. Mohan Rao, successfully apprehended two individuals and seized a large quantity of methamphetamine, marking a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against drugs in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Acting on credible intelligence received on 7th November 2024, a police team conducted a raid near the Forest Check Post, 15 Km, RK Pur in Little Andaman. The tip-off had indicated that a rider on motorcycle bearing registration number AN01 B 8976, was transporting illicit methamphetamine with intention of striking a deal to sell off the contraband. 

A raiding team constituting, SI G.Mohan Rao, SHO PS Hut Bay, HC/417 Vinod Kumar, PC/1534 Sudharsan Rao, PC/1005 Kuldeep Kumar, HC(D)/2552 P. Thanga Durai, was quickly mobilised. They were accompanied by independent witnesses, who were informed of the operation. At approximately 12:00 PM, the motorcycle, driven by Suresh Mondal (47) of RK Pur, was intercepted.

Upon questioning, Mondal was informed that he was suspected of carrying methamphetamine. After being apprised of his legal rights under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, Mondal agreed to a personal search. The officers discovered a plastic packet containing white crystalline substances, which, after a preliminary test with a Drug Detection Kit, was confirmed to be methamphetamine.

The total quantity of the seized contraband was 526 grams, which was sealed and documented at the scene. Mondal was arrested on the spot, and his motorcycle was seized as evidence.

During further investigation, Mondal revealed that he had acquired the drugs from a friend, who is believed to be another key figure in the drug trade.

In a subsequent tweet, Andaman Police revealed that the total amount of methamphetamine seized in the operation was actually 928 grams, indicating that additional quantities of the drug were found in possession of the accused’s associate.

Name of the second accused is not known as Andaman and Nicobar Police has not issued a Press Release.
