The ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, in association with ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, will organise the Island Kisan Mela–2026 on February 27 and 28 at the CIARI Mela Ground, Garacharma campus.

The two-day farmer-centric event aims to promote sustainable and climate-resilient crop, livestock and fisheries technologies tailored to the island ecosystem. The mela is expected to bring together farmers, farm women, self-help groups (SHGs), agri-entrepreneurs, startups, fisheries and livestock stakeholders, students and extension personnel on a common platform.

One of the major attractions of the event will be the Competition of Locally Grown Fruits and Vegetables, which will provide farmers an opportunity to showcase their quality produce. The competition is expected to encourage innovation, crop diversity and value addition in island agriculture.

The mela will also feature live demonstrations on improved crop varieties, integrated farming systems, aquaculture practices, scientific livestock management, advanced horticultural technologies, post-harvest processing and market linkages. Special emphasis will be laid on agripreneurship and business incubation support to boost local entrepreneurship in the agriculture sector.

The event will remain open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm on both days, and entry will be free. Farmers and other stakeholders have been invited to participate in large numbers.
