Marking the 10th anniversary of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) scheme, the ICDS Urban Project under the Directorate of Social Welfare, A&N Administration, organized a special school enrollment drive for girl children on February 13, 2025. The event, held at Pentecostal Church, Dairy Farm, Fisheries Colony, was conducted under the District Hub for Empowerment of Women.
The initiative aimed to encourage parents to enroll their daughters in school, reinforcing the fundamental right of every girl to education. The BBBP scheme, launched by the Government of India, focuses on eliminating gender-based discrimination and ensuring equal educational opportunities for girls, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Speaking at the event, Ms. Zarina Bibi, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Urban Project, emphasized the importance of girls’ education in shaping a brighter future. She highlighted the challenges faced by many young girls due to social and economic barriers and urged parents to take advantage of government initiatives that support female education.
