ICDS Urban Project Organises Awareness Programme on PCPNDT Act and MTP Act

An awareness programme focusing on the ‘Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques’ (PCPNDT) Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act was organized by the ICDS Urban Project. The event saw the participation of key figures including Dr. Saurabh and Ms. Sadhana, Public Health Nurse from District Hospital Garacharma, as well as the CDPO of the ICDS Urban Project, ICDS functionaries, POSHAN staff, and HEW staff.

Dr. Saurabh delivered an informative session on the PCPNDT Act and the MTP Act, highlighting their critical roles in protecting women’s health and rights. He explained that the PCPNDT Act aims to prevent sex-selective abortions and ensure the lawful and ethical use of prenatal diagnostic techniques. Additionally, the MTP Act provides a legal framework for the safe and regulated termination of pregnancies, ensuring women’s access to essential reproductive health services. Dr. Saurabh also touched upon the topic of Sickle Cell Anaemia, providing valuable information on its implications and management.

Ms. Sadhana offered valuable insights into the need for comprehensive public health education. She discussed the prevention of diarrhoea and the importance of folic acid for pregnant women. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of the girl child to society, advocating for equal opportunities and access to healthcare, education, and social support. Her discussions underscored the necessity of nurturing and empowering girl children, recognising their potential to contribute significantly to societal development.

The programme emphasised the importance of these acts in safeguarding women’s health and rights, and the need for continued public health education to ensure the well-being of women and children in the community.
