IGNOU Regional Centre at Sri Vijaya Puram Hosts International Conference on Ethnomedicine

The IGNOU Regional Centre in Sri Vijaya Puram successfully hosted a two-day International Conference titled “Ethnomedicine: Theory & Practices” from October 24 to 26, 2024. The event was conducted in hybrid mode at the auditorium of TGCE, attracting approximately 250 participants.

The conference was organized in collaboration with several esteemed institutions, including the Anthropological Survey of India, the Department of Biochemistry at St. Thomas College in Kerala, St. Albert College in Kerala, and TSG Resorts and Hotels, which served as the industrial partner.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary (Education) of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, who delivered the inaugural address. Prof. (Dr.) Sunil Jacob, Regional Director of IGNOU Sri Vijaya Puram, along with Dr. Manjulata, Principal of TGCE, and Dr. Sudarshan Raja, ARD of IGNOU Regional Centre, also addressed the gathering.

The conference featured a lineup of distinguished guest speakers, including Prof. (Dr.) Roonie Moore from the School of Public Health at University College, Dublin, Ireland; Dr. Eric Rosenbush L.Ac from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, California Institute of Integral Studies; Dr. Somorjit Singh, Head of Office at the Anthropological Survey of India, A & N Regional Centre; Dr. Ratheesh M from the Department of Biochemistry at St. Thomas College; Anupam Datta, Assistant Anthropologist, A & N Regional Centre; and Dr. T. R. Satyakeerthy, ARD at IGNOU Regional Centre.

Throughout the conference, a total of 21 research papers were presented by faculty members, research scholars, and experts hailing from both India and abroad, contributing to an enriching dialogue on the diverse aspects of ethnomedicine.

This event not only highlighted the significance of ethnomedicine but also fostered collaboration among scholars and practitioners, furthering the field’s development and understanding.
