The District Administration, South Andaman, has intensified its ongoing crackdown on illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals across the district. Acting on specific information, revenue officials conducted an inspection at Sippighat village and detected illegal extraction and dumping of earth.

During the field visit, it was found that around 100 cubic meters of earth had been extracted and dumped over 0.02 hectares of land classified as “House Site,” without obtaining permission from the competent authority. An excavator used in the operation was seized on the spot by the revenue staff.

The activity was found to be in violation of the A & N Islands Minor Mineral Rules, 2012, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Land Revenue and Land Reforms Regulation, 1966.

Following the inspection, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, imposed a penalty of ₹70,000, which includes the cost of the illegally extracted earth and the fine for the seized excavator, under Section 34 of the A & N Islands Minor Mineral Rules, 2012, and Section 201(6) of the Land Revenue and Land Reforms Regulation, 1966.

The District Administration has cautioned all individuals and landowners to strictly refrain from engaging in illegal extraction, transportation, or dumping of earth and minor minerals, warning that stringent legal action will be taken against violators.
