Illegal Timber Found Abandoned in Mangrove Forest, Seized by Baratang Police

In a recent sea patrolling operation conducted by the staff of PS Baratang, a startling discovery was made within the Mangrove forest near Khadi Bashti. Abandoned sawn timber was uncovered during routine monitoring, prompting immediate action by the authorities.

Led by a dedicated police team comprising SI Surjit Bhattacharjee, SHO of PS Baratang, ASI K. Ram Babu, HC Christ Nichale, and PCs M. Ashok Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, Ramesh, and Anup, the spot was swiftly approached upon suspicion. Their investigation resulted in the recovery of 12 pieces of sawn timber planks measuring 0.459 cubic meters, subsequently seized under the Indian Forest Act, 1927.

This vigilant action showcases the unwavering commitment of PS Baratang towards environmental conservation and the relentless pursuit of curbing illegal activities. The seizure marks a crucial step in safeguarding our precious natural resources, affirming a staunch stance against unlawful endeavors.

The confiscated sawn timber will be handed over to Forest officials for necessary legal procedures, ensuring compliance with the law.

Mr. Chandra Prakash Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Rangat, oversaw the entire operation with meticulous attention, while the overall guidance and supervision was provided by Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, N&M Andaman District.

The public is earnestly urged to come forward with any credible information related to crimes or illegal activities, either to their nearest Police Station or via phone at No.100, 112 & 03192-273344. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential and appropriately rewarded for their assistance in upholding law and order.

This decisive action by the authorities reinforces a resolute message that illegal activities will not be tolerated and those responsible will be held accountable, ensuring the preservation of the region’s ecological balance and natural splendour.
