The tranquil beauty of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was disrupted as heavy downpours continued to lash some regions of the Islands, leading to severe flooding in various parts of North and Middle Andaman District. On Sunday, the relentless rainfall reached a critical point, causing extensive damage and prompting rescue operations in affected areas.
Swadesh Nagar Panchayat, bore the brunt of the deluge, with reports of several families being marooned by the rising waters. Swift action by a dedicated team comprising local law enforcement and Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) personnel proved crucial in ensuring the safety of these stranded individuals.
Families caught in the deluge were left with no choice but to evacuate their homes. While some sought shelter at the local panchayat hall, others found solace with friends and family willing to provide safe haven amidst the adversity.
The calamity inflicted additional misery as floodwaters penetrated the dwellings of residents in several villages, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Homes were inundated, and personal belongings, including essential ration supplies, were ruined by the unforgiving waters.
