Independent Councillor Radhika Dheeraj Joins BJP, Boosts Party Strength in SVPMC

In a significant political development, Independent Councillor Mrs. Radhika Dheeraj of Ward No. 23, Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC), officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 3rd May 2025. Her husband, Mr. Dheeraj Ram, also joined the party alongside her. With this move, the BJP’s strength in the SVPMC has risen to 11 councillors, giving a further boost to the BJP-TDP alliance in the council.

The joining proposal was presented to the State BJP President, Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, by the Election Committee of BJP for the SVPMC elections. The four-member committee comprises Mrs. Sheela Singh (State Vice President), Mr. K. Ramdas (State General Secretary), Mr. Anil Kumar Tiwari (State Secretary), and Mr. Jitender Narayan (District President).

A formal joining ceremony was held at the State BJP Bhavan at Middle Point, Sri Vijaya Puram, in the presence of BJP State President Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, SVPMC Chairperson Mr. Shahul Hamid, other SVPMC councillors, senior BJP leaders, and party workers.

Expressing her happiness, Mrs. Radhika Dheeraj thanked the BJP leadership and affirmed her commitment to strengthening the party by aligning with its ideology. “I look forward to working with the team to serve the people more effectively under the BJP’s vision,” she said.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ajoy Bairagi welcomed the new members and said the addition of Mrs. Radhika Dheeraj to the BJP family will further strengthen the party’s base in the region. He also expressed gratitude to all those involved in the recent successful elections for the offices of SVPMC Chairperson and the Adhyaksh and Up-Adhyaksh of the North & Middle Andaman District.

Mr. Bairagi concluded by urging party leaders and karyakartas to continue working in unison for the bright future of the BJP in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
