The Government of India marks the 10th anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme, a transformative initiative launched on January 22, 2015, to promote the survival, safety, and education of the girl child. Over the past decade, the program has made significant strides toward empowering girls, fostering gender equality, and building an inclusive society for women across the nation.

To commemorate this milestone, the ICDS Project (Rural) Diglipur, under the Directorate of Social Welfare, organized an oath-taking and awareness program in collaboration with various departments. The event, held at the GPOA Hall in Diglipur, featured a signature campaign aimed at sensitizing the community about preventing gender-biased sex-selective practices, ensuring girls’ education, and empowering women.

The program began with a warm welcome by Ms. Indira Devi, Child Development Project Officer, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of creating a more equitable society where every girl has the opportunity to thrive, achieve her dreams, and contribute to nation-building.

Assistant Commissioner of Diglipur, Mr. Kamaleshwar Rao S, IAS, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, inaugurating the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The event was also attended by distinguished dignitaries, including Mr. CH Siddharaju, Chief Medical Officer (CHC Diglipur); Ms. Aarti Singh, Assistant Director (Agriculture), Diglipur; Dr. Shipra Mistry (MO, Ayurveda); Ms. Kannagi (SI, PS Diglipur); and Mr. Bibhas Biswas (EO, BDO Office).

In their addresses, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries highlighted the scheme’s achievements, such as improved child sex ratios, increased enrollment of girls in schools, and enhanced opportunities for girls to lead and contribute to society. They underscored the importance of continuing efforts to make education a fundamental right for every girl and ensuring their empowerment through education and decision-making platforms.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by ICDS functionaries, marking the event as a meaningful celebration of a decade of progress under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
