In observance of World Environment Day, India Tourism, Sri Vijaya Puram (Ministry of Tourism, Government of India), in collaboration with the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), organized a special educational tour for students of Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) to Red Skin Island—part of the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, known for its vibrant marine biodiversity.

The initiative aimed to foster environmental awareness and promote sustainable tourism practices among youth. Students were ferried to the island by boat under strict eco-tourism protocols, with the use of plastic materials strictly prohibited.

Upon arrival, the students visited the Marine Interpretation Centre, where forest officials delivered an insightful briefing on the ecological significance of Red Skin Island and the pressing need for marine conservation.

Addressing the students, Mr. N. Velmurugan, Assistant Director, India Tourism, emphasized the role of young citizens in preserving the natural environment and championing responsible tourism.

Mr. M. Vinod, President of AATO, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism for its consistent support and lauded the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders that contributed to the successful execution of the programme.

The day-long educational excursion included breakfast, refreshments, and lunch for all participants. The event concluded with a collective reaffirmation of commitment to eco-friendly tourism and conservation-driven initiatives.
