Indian Coast Guard Station Mayabunder Commemorates Vijay Diwas with Duathlon Event

In observance of the 1971 Vijay Diwas, the Indian Coast Guard Station Mayabunder organised a duathlon event on December 16, 2024, featuring a 7-kilometre run and a 7-kilometre cycling race. The event saw the participation of 35 individuals, including Coast Guard personnel, members of the Andaman & Nicobar Police, the Forest Department, Fire Station Mayabunder, PMB Mayabunder, Karen Youth Club, and local stakeholders.

The duathlon was flagged off by Ms. Sweta Sugathan IPS, SP (N&M), from the Indian Coast Guard Station in Mayabunder. Participants competed for medals and certificates, with the winners and all participants receiving recognition for their efforts.

In her address at the conclusion of the event, Ms. Sweta Sugathan emphasised the significance of Vijay Diwas, the historical importance of the day, and the value of fostering camaraderie among various departments through such events. She also underscored the critical role of physical fitness in daily life.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Ms. Monideepa, ACF Mayabunder, Mr. P. Chawdari, Inspector Fire Department Mayabunder, Mr. Mathew Kuruvila (AD IB), Mr. Kanan, SHO Mayabunder, Mr. Johnson, Pradhan of GP Hanspuri, along with various departmental staff.

In addition to the duathlon, a prize distribution ceremony was held for a painting competition themed around Vijay Diwas, which was organised by the Coast Guard Station Mayabunder on December 13. The competition involved local school students, further engaging the community in the celebrations.

The event was a successful blend of fitness, camaraderie, and tribute to a significant chapter in Indian history.
