In a bid to empower local farmers and promote self-employment, Central Hatchery Dollygunj initiated a program that distributed day-old chicks to 26 farmers on 20th October 2023. A total of 1107 Vanaraja day-old birds, 335 ducklings, and 720 Japanese quail were allocated to beneficiaries.

This remarkable initiative aims to support local agricultural endeavours, allowing individuals to embark on poultry farming with the help of these day-old chicks.

Interested farmers who wish to avail themselves of this service and secure day-old chicks from Central Hatchery Dollygunj can do so through the website https://edistrict.andaman.gov.in/Account/Login. The distribution is done on a first-come, first-serve basis, encouraging prompt reservations to guarantee availability.

This program comes as a part of the Department’s continuous efforts to foster self-employment and promote agriculture in the region. Between April 2023 and September 2023, the Department has successfully produced an impressive total of 82,664 day-old chicks through artificial hatching. Out of this production, 54,865 day-old chicks have already been distributed to 549 farmers, making a significant contribution to boosting local agricultural activities.

The initiative not only supports the livelihoods of local farmers but also strengthens the agricultural sector in Andaman, aligning with the government’s broader vision for rural development and self-sufficiency. As the program gains momentum, it is expected to have a lasting and positive impact on the local economy, further empowering individuals in the region.
