The Inter Primary School Football League-cum-Knockout Tournament 2026, organized by the Office of the Deputy Education Officer, South Andaman, commenced on Tuesday at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sri Vijaya Puram. As many as 62 teams from various primary schools across the South Andaman Zone are participating in the tournament, reflecting enthusiastic response from young footballers.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education & Sports), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Singh highlighted that the initiative aims to promote sportsmanship, physical fitness and regular participation in games and sports among children. He also stressed the importance of fostering friendship and camaraderie through sports and encouraged students to stay away from excessive use of mobile phones by engaging in outdoor activities.
The Director further noted that the tournament serves as a platform to identify promising football talent at the grassroots level, who can be groomed for participation in upcoming State-level football competitions.
In the opening round of matches, GSS Calicut emerged victorious over GMS Brichgunj with a narrow 1–0 win in the Boys’ category. In the Girls’ category, GMS Humphrygunj registered a convincing 5–0 victory against GMS Brichgunj.
The tournament will continue over the coming days, featuring competitive matches among primary school teams from across South Andaman.
