In a significant breakthrough, a joint team comprising officers from the PS Central Crime Station and the Narcotics Cell of the CID Unit successfully dismantled a major drug trafficking operation. On October 4, 2023, acting on credible information, the team recovered a substantial amount of marijuana, leading to a series of arrests and the unraveling of an elaborate drug distribution network.
The operation began with the seizure of 2.095 kilograms of marijuana from the possession of the prime suspect, identified as Mohd. Shabib, also known as Guddu, a 34-year-old resident of Chandini Chowk in Shadipur. As the investigation progressed, it was revealed that the seized ganja had been transported through India Post, with the alleged involvement of their staff members, S.A. Karthick and D. Wilson David Raj, both residents of Shadipur. Both individuals were subsequently arrested and subjected to intensive questioning.
During the course of their interrogation, investigators identified the mastermind behind this illegal drug distribution ring as Abdul Sahil, a 40-year-old resident of South Point, Shadipur. Sahil had a methodical approach to his criminal activities, regularly traveling to Rourkela, Odisha, to procure marijuana at a lower cost. He would then send the illicit substance to Port Blair using fictitious names and fake addresses, often including non-working mobile numbers. To facilitate this operation, he shared tracking information with Mohd. Shabib, S.A. Karthick, and D. Wilson David, ensuring the successful delivery of the contraband.
Further investigation revealed that a parcel sent by Abdul Sahil from Rourkela on October 3, 2023, was still in transit. Abdul Sahil was intercepted by authorities after he arrived at Port Blair, after sustained interrogation he was arrested on 10th October 2023. A letter from the Postal Department, informed that the suspected parcel sent by Abdul Sahil from Rourkela has reached Port Blair. This parcel, seized on October 10, 2023, contained 2.060 kilograms of ganja.
The CID team determined that Abdul Sahil and Mohd. Shabib, known as Guddu, were the key figures behind this illicit drug operation, with the active assistance of Head Post Office employees in Port Blair, specifically S.A. Karthick and D. Wilson David Raj. The successful dismantling of this drug trafficking network was the result of persistent efforts and real-time intelligence gathering by the CID Unit, with valuable assistance from postal services.
The entire operation was conducted under the close supervision of Mr. Vinay Mathur, DANIPS, Dy.SP (Narcotics), and Mr. Kumar Abhishek, DANIPS, Dy.SP CID, with the overall guidance of Mr. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS, SP CID.
