The Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committee, North & Middle Andaman, in collaboration with the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, celebrated International Women’s Day 2025 with great enthusiasm.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Mr. Subhajit Basu, Additional District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, Sub-Divisional Legal Services Committee, North & Middle Andaman. He was joined by Ms. Nandini Maharaj, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman, Mr. Ashish Joon, Assistant Commissioner (HQ), Mayabunder, Ms. Shweta K Sugathan, IPS, SP N&M Andaman, Dr. Alice Bwa of R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder, and several other dignitaries, including legal professionals from Mayabunder Court.
In his address, Mr. Basu highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day, emphasizing the global campaign to accelerate action for women’s empowerment and gender equality. He also noted that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, a landmark international commitment to advancing women’s rights.
The event underscored the ongoing efforts to ensure gender justice and the vital role of legal services in protecting and promoting the rights of women and girls in society.
