INTUC (Federation) Holds May Day Rally in Port Blair, Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Rights

In a spirited celebration of International Workers’ Day, the INTUC (Federation), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, organized a May Day rally from Chatham Saw Mill to Hanuman Junction via the Forest Labour Club in Haddo. The rally, held on 1st May, served as a powerful reaffirmation of the organization’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of the working class.

The rally was led by Mr. TSG Bhasker, National Vice-President of INTUC (Federation) and President of the Forest Labour Union, alongside Shri K.P. Usman, State President of INTUC (Federation). The event saw enthusiastic participation from workers and union representatives across diverse sectors.

Prominent political and union leaders, including Senior Congress Leader Mr. Hamid Ali, INTUC General Secretary Mr. Mohd. Rafique, Mahila Congress President Mrs. Zubaida Begum, City Congress President Mr. Mohd. Zubair, and Mahila Congress Leader Ms. M. Bindu, joined the rally in solidarity with the labour force.

Members of the Forest Labour Union, Mill Division, Chatham, played a central role in organizing the event, showcasing the unity and strength of the workers’ movement in the Islands.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. TSG Bhasker stressed the continued need to uphold workers’ rights and called for fair wages, better working conditions, and dignity in labour. Echoing his views, Mr. K.P. Usman advocated for progressive labour policies that balance industrial development with social justice.

The rally concluded with a collective pledge to intensify efforts for labour welfare, reinforcing INTUC’s unwavering commitment to the island’s working population.
