The vibrant Island Coconut Festival 2025, a two-day celebration of the Islands’ rich coconut heritage, kicks off today at 2 PM at the ITF Pavilion in Sri Vijaya Puram. Organized by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with allied departments and associations, this year’s festival is themed “Celebrating Coconut – Culture, Cuisine & Crafts of the Islands.”
The festival aims to promote coconut-based tourism and livelihoods by showcasing both traditional and contemporary uses of coconut in cuisine, crafts, and wellness. Visitors can expect a dynamic, immersive experience through a range of exhibitions, tasting zones, and engaging activities.
Government departments will host stalls featuring coconut-based products that reflect the cultural, economic, and artisanal traditions of the islands. Additionally, stalls selling coconut-based delicacies and food items will be available for visitors to explore and enjoy.
To add excitement to the festivities, several competitions will be held, including a Coconut Rangoli competition, coconut de-husking challenge, and a cooking contest centered on coconut-based dishes. Winners of these events will receive cash prizes from the Department of Tourism. For the cooking competition, participants may bring pre-cooked coconut dishes from home, but garnishing and plating must be done on-site.
The festival promises two unforgettable evenings filled with tropical vibes, mouth-watering coconut treats, music, and lively memories. It will be open to the public from 2 PM to 8 PM on both days.
Everyone is invited to join in the celebration and experience the essence of the islands—through the versatile and cherished coconut.
