As part of the ongoing ‘Swachhta Hi Seva 2025’ campaign, a series of cleanliness drives, health check-ups, and awareness initiatives were held across several Gram Panchayats in the Islands, with the aim of promoting hygiene, sanitation, and active community participation.

A key highlight was the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir, organized in collaboration with the Health Department. The programme focused on occupational safety, preventive healthcare, proper use of protective equipment, and welfare schemes designed for sanitary workers.

Cleanliness activities were carried out at multiple locations:

  • Kalighat Bazar, Ward No. 05, GP Kalighat.
  • Chouldari, Ferrargunj Block (19/09/2025) – 20 sanitary workers and volunteers carried out deep cleaning, scrubbing, and disinfection of public toilets for improved community hygiene.
  • Teylorabad, Ward No. 1, GP Sippighat, CD Block Prothrapur.
  • GP Govind Nagar, Swaraj Dweep, CD Block Prothrapur – Volunteers and Panchayat staff cleaned public areas.
  • GP Namunaghar, Ferrargunj Block (19/09/2025) – Target Unit cleaning with deep cleaning and disinfection by 20 sanitary workers and volunteers.
  • GP Ramakrishnagram – Roadside jungle cleaning drive with 25 volunteers clearing overgrown vegetation, removing plastic and organic waste, and making roads safer and more accessible.
  • Harinagar and Jaipur – Community waste management initiatives, including collection and segregation of waste.
  • Rangachang beach – A beach cleaning drive conducted with support from NIOT and Pondicherry University.

In addition to cleanliness activities, awareness programmes were organized to involve students and the larger community. A painting competition was conducted in various schools to encourage children to creatively highlight the importance of hygiene. Students of Nimbutala and Shoal Bay schools also performed Nukkad Nataks, spreading messages on sanitation and collective responsibility among residents and passersby.

Through these activities, the campaign not only emphasized the importance of maintaining clean surroundings but also promoted sustainable practices and community-driven action towards a healthier environment.
