Islanders Pay Homage to 2004 Tsunami Victims on 21st Anniversary

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Thursday solemnly observed the 21st anniversary of the devastating 2004 Tsunami, with Islanders paying homage to those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

A commemorative function was organised by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration at the Tsunami Memorial located at the Water Sports Complex on the morning of December 26. Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Vice-Chairman of the Islands Development Agency, led the tributes by placing a wreath and offering floral homage at the memorial.

Floral tributes were also offered by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sinha, IFS; Commissioner-cum-Secretary, A&N Administration, Dr. Sachin Shinde, IAS; Councillors of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC); senior officers of the Administration, prominent citizens, and school students.

As part of the observance, an all-religion prayer meeting (Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha) was held, followed by the observance of a two-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Tsunami, reflecting the collective grief and resilience of the island community.
