Island Booksy an online book store was recently launched in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Initially, the idea of the online book store was coined by Mr. Kangaraj, a 23-year-old final year Pharm-D student. The company was later co-founded by Mr. Akhil a final year MBBS student of ANIIMS and Mr. Vivekanandam an entrepreneur from the Islands.

Online delivery of books are available in the Islands from major e-commerce operators but the delivery of books takes considerable time so the trio behind Island Booksy decided to gamble on providing same day/next day delivery and kick-started their venture.

Currently, Island Booksy offers a small collection of fiction, non-fiction, medical books, stationery and some equipment like stethoscopes, but the founders are determined to add new books and products rapidly.

Island Booksy also offers services to buy your old books and it also offers its customers used books for a reduced price. This feature of their technology-driven platform will prove very useful for the Medical and Engineering students who often have to struggle to purchase expensive books.

Island Booksy also offers autographed copies of books by local authors of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and currently, they are offering autographed copies of Lucid Dreams by G Mehul Krishna on their platform.

The bookstore was launched in the month of August 2021 by Mr. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman District in the presence of Mr. Hari Kallikat, SDM, South Andaman and Miss. Yashaswini Banur, Assistant Commissioner (U/T). The IAS officers praised the entrepreneurs during the launch and also became their first customers.

People prefer to purchase e-books these days because they are more affordable and is delivered instantly through the internet. Many popular platforms for e-books like Amazon Kindle and Scribd have made a fortune for themselves by selling e-books. E-Books are preferred mostly because it provides the ease of instant access, however printed books are still the first choice of book lovers because it provides comfortable reading experience.

Island Booksy aims to solve the problem of delivery in other Islands especially those which are very remote and connect with the youth of the Islands through the books that they sell.
