Island’s Junior Scientist Bags Silver in India Young Inventors & Innovators Challenge (IYIIC)-22

Islands’ Jr. Scientist has proved her mettle by bagging Silver Medal in the recent India Young Inventors & Innovators Challenge (IYIIC)-22 held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, South Goa from Nov. 16 to 20, 2022. A three-member team from these Islands led by Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, State Coordinator, Dr. Lalitha Rao, State Academic Coordinator and Child Scientist Ms. Yogita Singh of Navy Children School participated in the Expo.

A stall representing Andaman & Nicobar Islands was set up on the theme ‘Geographic Isolation Nurtures 1032 Endemic Species in Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ which was awarded Silver Medal in the ‘India International Innovation & Invention Expo-22’. The stall was set up by Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, State Coordinator and Dr. Lalitha Rao, State Academic Coordinator of National Children’s Science Congress of Port Blair. 

Ms. Yogita Singh, a student of Navy Children School, Port Blair created history by securing Silver Medal in her category for her presentation on the project titled ‘The Sea Weeds with Immense Potential’ and she will compete for two projects to be selected for the International arena to be held in December.

The dignitaries lauded the performance of the young budding talents of A&N Islands and appreciated Ms. Yogita Singh for being selected among the two other students, out of the 150 National and International Child Scientists who participated in the event.

The results of other projects presented at the National level in the Session-22 are Project ‘Plastic waste to useful fabrics’ of Naval Children School awarded ‘A’ grade; Project ‘Working Model of Robot for cleaning’ of R.G.T Public Vidyalaya awarded ‘A’ grade; Project ‘Traditional Knowledge System for Sustainable living’ of G.S.S.S Campbell Bay awarded ‘B+’; Project ‘Nicobari Tribes of A&N Islands-Saviour of Indigenous Knowledge System’ of Naval Children School awarded ‘A’; Project ‘Artificial ecosystem stray animals’ of Khalsa Public School, Port Blair awarded ‘A’ grade; Project ‘Our Local Eco Cultural Tradition & Sustainable Living’ of VKV Lamba Line awarded ‘B+’ ;Project ‘Understanding impact of human in different Ecosystem’ of VKV Lamba Line awarded ‘A’ grade and Project ‘Affordable & Clean energy Gadgets’ of V.K.V Port Blair awarded ‘A’ grade.

The State Level selection was held virtually on 17th January 2022, by Andaman Nature Club in collaboration with the Directorate of Education, A&N Administration. The Andaman Nature Club, Port Blair has been dedicatedly working in these Islands since 1999 and every year participates in the National Science Congress with 4 child scientists, and in the Indian Science Congress with 2 child scientists. This provides a platform to the aspiring and talented child scientists of A&N Islands for other science events organised in India from time to time.
