Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day) was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Edward Kutchat Park, Car Nicobar, showcasing the island’s rich tribal heritage through vibrant performances and key welfare initiatives.
The event began with a solemn tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary. Chief guest Rahul L. Nair, IPS, Superintendent of Police, and guest of honour Lionald Nicomed, CTC Car Nicobar, led the ceremonial lamp-lighting and floral tribute. The programme was held under the supervision of Dr. Naveen Kumar, AC (HQ), Car Nicobar, and attended by all Heads of Department.
The Education Department presented an impressive line-up of traditional folk songs and spirited tribal dances, earning praise from the chief guest for the high quality of the performances that reflected the community’s vibrant cultural identity.
Several welfare activities marked the occasion. The Agriculture Department distributed vegetable seed kits to local farmers, while the Veterinary Department handed over duck chicks to support sustainable livelihoods. The Health Department conducted a comprehensive medical camp providing vision and dental check-ups, ABHA ID generation, nutrition awareness, and NCD screenings.
A three-day public grievance redressal camp under Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore also commenced on November 15. The Electricity Department organised a special awareness and registration drive for the Surya Ghar scheme under the RESCO model, offered free of cost to AAY and BPL families to promote clean energy access.
CIARI, Car Nicobar, hosted a Tribal Farmer Market, displaying fresh local produce, while the Fisheries Department exhibited traditional fishing tools and conducted community outreach activities. The CDPO organised an awareness programme on Anganwadi nutrition meals, along with information on social welfare schemes such as Old Age, Disability, and Widow Pensions.
Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025 emerged as a meaningful celebration honouring tribal culture and legacy, while advancing community welfare through initiatives in agriculture, health, energy, and sustainable livelihoods.
