Jansunwai by SP Nicobar at SAI Centre in Car Nicobar Focuses on Youth Empowerment and Social Awareness

A Jansunwai (public hearing) was held on Saturday at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Lapathy, Car Nicobar, under the chairmanship of Mr. Rahul L Nair, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District. The event was aimed at engaging youth and spreading awareness on key social and legal issues. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and faculty members of the SAI Centre.

During the interactive session, the Superintendent of Police briefed attendees on various opportunities available for youth, including government schemes, scholarships, careers in sports, and skill development initiatives. Officials reiterated their commitment to empowering the young population of the islands and encouraged them to make informed choices for a better future.

A special awareness session on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was conducted to educate participants about child protection laws. The session emphasised the importance of timely reporting of abuse to ensure children’s safety and well-being.

Another key highlight of the Jansunwai was a discussion on drug abuse. Experts outlined the severe impact of substance misuse and stressed the crucial role of families, schools, and communities in prevention and rehabilitation.

The Superintendent of Police also addressed the growing concerns around cyber fraud and digital safety. Attendees were cautioned against online scams and advised to remain vigilant during digital financial transactions. The session also promoted responsible use of social media, emphasizing digital etiquette, privacy, and positive online engagement.

The Jansunwai concluded with a collective reaffirmation of the community’s resolve to build a safer, more informed, and progressive society in Car Nicobar through active youth involvement.
