Jitendra Narain Appointed as the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands till Further Orders; Chetan B Sanghi Transferred to Govt. of NCT, Delhi

Mr. Jitendra Narain, IAS officer of the AGMUT Cadre, 1990 batch has taken over the charge of the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration. He has relieved Shri. Chetan B Sanghi after two year and six months from the charge of the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Mr. Jitendra Narain is known for his tough stand against corruption and has been featured in the coveted list of top and effective bureaucrats prepared by Fame India, Asia Post and PSU Watch.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are all set to undergo a massive phase of development under the current government. Projects worth tens of thousands of crores are in pipeline and at this time officers like Mr. Jitendra Narain will stand guard and protect the Islands and the Islanders against any exploitation.

The rural areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands especially the Nicobar Group has always been neglected by the officers sitting in the plush secretariat of Andaman and Nicobar Administration. Andaman and Nicobar Administration these days have become infamous for its not so public friendly approach.The new Chief Secretary brings a beacon of hope for the Islanders.

There are several key areas where undivided attention of the Administration is needed, some of which are employment generation, effective implementation of the Central Govt. Schemes, Promoting and supporting startups and innovation, providing basic facilities needed for human survival in the remotest parts of the Islands, improving telecommunication facilities, providing best healthcare at the remotest regions, improving travel facilities for Southern Group of Islands, improving education in the rural areas especially Nicobar District, fostering an environment for IT Industry, developing a mechanism for effective grievance redressal etc. 

The political leaders of Andaman and Nicobar Islands have also welcomed the appointment of Mr. Jitendra Narain as the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands in a communication to Nicobar Times has conveyed best wishes to Mr. Jitendra Narain and has shown confidence in his ability to lead the Islands effectively and efficiently.

In the absence of a democratic setup like Legislative Assembly and Pradesh Council the role of the Administration is very important in the development of the Islands. The officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration play a key role in both policy creation and implementation. The appointment of Mr. Jitendra Narain who has won several international accolades for his work is the right decision of the Central Govt and the new Chief Secretary will play an important role in the economic revival of the Islands post COVID-19 pandemic.
