Justice Delivered: Accused Sentenced to 20 Years Rigorous Imprisonment in Diglipur POCSO Case

In a landmark judgment, the Hon’ble Special Judge (POCSO), Mr. Subhajit Basu, on 25 September 2025, sentenced Ajay Sarkar to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 in connection with Crime No. 48/2020 of PS Diglipur under the POCSO Act, 2012.

The case involves a sexual assault committed by the victim’s stepfather. Following the victim’s disclosure, the police promptly registered a case under Sections 5(j), (m), (n)/6 of the POCSO Act, 2012 read with Sections 376/323 IPC, initiating swift legal action against the accused.

The verdict reflects the dedicated efforts of Sub-Inspector Tamilarasan, under the leadership of the then SHO Inspector Pritham Behari, PS Diglipur. The investigating team’s meticulous work and professional diligence were pivotal in ensuring justice for the victim.

The Andaman & Nicobar Police emphasized that this judgment sends a strong message that crimes against children will be met with the strictest consequences. The force continues to maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward offenses against minors and is committed to protecting the rights and dignity of vulnerable members of society.
