A significant verdict has been upheld by the Hon’ble High Court in the gruesome murder case that shook the community of Billiground. On March 6, 2021, a horrifying incident was reported to the Billiground Police Station, where a caller informed authorities that Neel Ratan Mridha had brutally attacked his wife with a machete, resulting in her immediate death.
The police promptly registered an FIR (No. 14/21 dated 06/03/2021) under Section 302 of the IPC and apprehended the accused, Neel Ratan Mridha, 34, son of Mr. Niranjan Mridha, a resident of Jaipur, Billiground. The case was diligently investigated by Sub-Inspector Madhab Halder, the then Station House Officer of Billiground Police Station, who worked tirelessly to gather evidence and build a strong case.
The trial at the Hon’ble Court of Additional District Sessions, Mayabunder, concluded with the conviction of the accused. Mridha was sentenced to life imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life. Dissatisfied with the conviction, Mridha appealed to the Hon’ble High Court, which has now upheld the lower court’s verdict on July 9, 2024.
