Police Station (PS) Kadamtala swiftly solved an unnatural death case, following the discovery of Sunil Gomasta’s body at his residence on Bhakta Road, Kadamtala. Sunil, son of the late Amulya Gomasta, was 50 years old.

On November 7, 2024, PS Kadamtala was alerted to the death, after a complaint was filed by Tushar Suvra Gomasta, the deceased’s son, who found his father lifeless at home. A case under Section 194 of the BNSS was registered, and ASI Buddhiswar Haldar was assigned to lead the investigation.

A post-mortem conducted the following day at PHC Kadamtala revealed that Sunil had succumbed to blood loss resulting from high-energy blunt trauma. Based on these findings, the investigation team reclassified the incident as a murder case under relevant provisions of the BNS, 2023. The probe was subsequently taken over by SI P.M. Krishna Kumar, SHO of PS Kadamtala.

During the investigation, suspicion turned to Tushar Gomasta, the son of the deceased, aged 31, a private auto driver also residing on Bhakta Road. Following extensive questioning, Tushar reportedly confessed to an altercation with his father on the evening of November 6, 2024. According to the confession, he found his father intoxicated on the road, and when he attempted to wake him up, his father became verbally abusive. In response, Tushar allegedly struck his father’s leg below the knee multiple times with a heavy wooden baton and discarded the weapon nearby. Tushar then took his injured father home, where Sunil later succumbed to his injuries.

The accused has since been arrested, and the alleged weapon used in the incident has been seized. Police officials state that the investigation remains ongoing under the guidance of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SDPO Rangat, with overall supervision from Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP (D), North & Middle Andaman.
