Kamorta Residents Decry Poor Mobile Services

Port Blair, Nov 18 2020

The residents of Kamorta have been facing severe call drops and connectivity issues since the last two days. It has been reported that the residents are not able to make any calls from Kamorta to other places over their BSNL Mobile.  Further the residents have informed that even if the call connects, it gets dropped. The incoming calls are being received but the problem lies with the outgoing calls from Kamorta.

Sources from Kamorta have informed that recently two days before, the BTS was upgraded to 4G and those who have 4G sim cards are able to access the data services but after the upgradation, the whole Island started facing problems with calls and sms. Outgoing calls are not going through even when the mobile is in 2G mode and connected to a 2G only BTS.

BSNL is the only mobile service provider in the Nicobar Group of Islands and any technical issue with their mobile networks cripple the whole communication of the Islanders with the outside world. The CANI SMC has been commissioned now in the entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands as per the plan and now BSNL needs to improve its ground equipments to provide better services to the Islanders.

BSNL should have procured, deployed and tested the necessary equipments to give better services to the Islanders even before the commissioning of the CANI SMC, since it was clear that the project was nearing completion. Earlier the excuse of BSNL for every problem was non-availability of adequate bandwidth, the Islands now have more than enough bandwidth and BSNL should buckle up to provide better services to the Islanders.
